Maximizing your session
The goal for every newborn session is to take advantage of those early newborn days when they are super sleepy and flexible. That is why I recommend doing sessions in the first 14 days of life, however, they can be done up to 4 weeks successfully. I use several techniques to try and get baby super sleepy during the newborn session. We have a heater close by to keep them nice and cozy, a noise machine to provide them with soft shushing sounds, and cozy wraps to keep them secure. You will also be sent a prep guide before your newborn session with suggestions on how to best prepare baby. However, even with all of that, sometimes baby may be wide awake, uncomfortable, or just not a fan of photos. In that case, we practice LOTS of patience and go at baby's pace. Often that means lots of breaks, snuggles, and rocking. When a baby is not settling into a pose well I NEVER push them, and when choosing a photographer, you should make sure they are always baby led. It is never worth it to stress baby out for a photo.
To make the most of your session I make sure to take many angles of each pose while baby is comfortable so we can get a nice diverse full gallery with amazing photos to have for a lifetime! Often times you can never tell that a baby was unsettled based on the final product. It's all about maximizing your angles and making sure baby is happy during your newborn session.
